The People Behind the Numbers

Every number represents a life touched. These are just a few of the stories from first responders and families who found the help they needed through 911AEI.

This has historically been a pretty touchy subject that people sometimes want to hide from friends, family, and coworkers and so on. So the confidentiality piece is huge. And finally it’s free to them. It’s just something people are comfortable doing. We’re just really grateful to have it as an option.

– Chief Colyer, Missoula, MT, Police Dept.

Once we completed our search and finished the investigation that night, I knew I needed help. I reached out… and without hesitation they offered up services through the At Ease program and provided counseling for me for several months to help me work through the emotions that came along with working in a thing like that.

– Chris I., Police Sergeant

…My husband of 27 years died of suicide in October of 2017. Without [At Ease] I honestly wouldn’t be where I am today and neither would my boys. He was a firefighter for 30 years.

– Nikki S., Fire Captain

…When we find someone we can’t help is where it’s really hard for us. And I wasn’t able to forgive myself that I couldn’t help this kid and that’s where At Ease stepped in and it was so easy and if it was any harder, I probably wouldn’t have done it. I picked up a phone and I was in the office quick.

– Sam D., Firefighter

The At Ease program keeps expanding and is generously supported by the community, it continues to grow and touch more and more people that need the help.

– Lori L., Chief of Police

You can’t go to a disaster without having it affect you, you can’t be in a trauma-based organization without being traumatized. So instead of hoping it won’t happen, you come to understand that trauma will happen and you need to know how to respond to that trauma that our first responders experience at every event, attempting to be the best they can be.
