William Kent Levis has a comprehensive and highly cherished background in law enforcement and the US legal system. Mr. Levis has held esteemed positions of authority throughout his career, including his 20-year commitment as an instructor for the State Center Peace Officer Academy. Mr. Levis was born in Selma, California and has lived in both Fresno and Cambria since. He acquired a B.A. in English from California State University Fresno in 1964 and later attained accreditation as Juris Doctor from University of San Diego School of Law in 1969. His experience includes the following positions: 

  • Research Attorney, California Court of Appeals (1969-1971) 

  • Deputy District Attorney, County of Fresno (1971-1973) 

  • Principal in Gallagher, Levis and Soley, private practice (1973-1974) 

  • Legal Advisor to Fresno Police Department (1974-1977) 

  • Traffic Court Referee, Fresno County Courts (1977-1983) 

  • Municipal Court Commissioner, Fresno County Courts (1983-1990) 

  • Superior Court Judge, Fresno County Courts, (elected) (1991-2008) 

  • Assigned Judges Program, sitting on assignment (2009-2016) 

Key professional organizations that Mr. Levis has been involved with include the California Bar association, IACP, Legal Officers Section, and California Legal Officers Association, Fresno County Bar Association, and CJER continuing education for judicial branch officers, organizing committees and instructor. Currently, he is a member of the Cambria Vineyard Church, where he participates prayer and healing ministry. He is leader for a men’s accountability group and most recently authored a book, Coming Clean: Daily Devotional for People Struggling with Sexual Sin.

After 49 years of marriage, his wife went before him to eternity. She left him behind with a wonderful family of two daughters, one son in-law who is retired from law enforcement, two grandsons, and one great-granddaughter.
